Overview

Map Memories (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is built with your privacy as a priority. We believe your memories belong to you alone. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.

1. Data We Collect

All of the following data is stored exclusively on your device and never transmitted to our servers:

Photos and videos you choose to import
GPS coordinates embedded in your media files
Manually entered GPS coordinates for media without location data
Trip names, dates, and paths you create
Custom titles, notes, and tags you add
App preferences such as theme and notification settings

We do not collect your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information.

2. Third-Party Services

Map Memories uses the following third-party services that may receive limited data:

Mapbox (map display and geocoding)

When you view the map, the region you are viewing is sent to Mapbox to fetch map imagery. When the app resolves GPS coordinates to place names (for example, “Paris, France”), those coordinates are sent to Mapbox’s geocoding API. This only occurs when you import media with GPS data. Google AdMob (advertising)

The free version of Map Memories displays advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use your device’s advertising identifier and general location to serve relevant ads. You can opt out of personalised ads in your device settings. AdMob’s privacy policy applies: https://policies.google.com/privacy

Map Memories Premium removes all advertising entirely.

Google Sign-In and Google Drive (optional)

If you choose to use the Google Drive backup feature, the app will ask you to sign in with your Google account. This sign-in is used solely to access your own Google Drive storage. We do not receive or store your Google credentials. Media files you choose to back up are uploaded directly to a folder in your personal Google Drive. Thumbnail copies of Drive-linked media may also be stored locally on your device for performance. Google’s privacy policy applies: https://policies.google.com/privacy

Google user data and Limited Use

Map Memories’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data from your Google Drive is used only to provide the backup and restore feature you request. It is not used for advertising, is not sold, and is not shared with third parties.

We do not share your photos, videos, or personal data with any third party.

3. Advertising

The free version of Map Memories displays advertisements via Google AdMob. AdMob may use your device’s advertising identifier and general location to serve relevant ads. You can opt out of personalised ads in your device settings. Map Memories Premium removes all advertising entirely.

4. Permissions

The app requests the following device permissions:

Photo Library: required to import your photos and videos into the app. We read only the files you explicitly select.
Location (When In Use): used to show your current position on the map. Your location is never stored or transmitted.
Notifications: used to send optional memory reminders (for example, “On this day”). You can change the frequency or disable this entirely in app Settings.

You can revoke any permission at any time via your device Settings.

5. Data Storage & Security

All your data (memories, trips, paths, and settings) is stored in a local database on your device using SQLite. This data is protected by your device’s built-in security (for example, device encryption or biometric lock). We do not have access to your device or your data at any time.

If you use Google Drive backup, your original media files are stored in your personal Google Drive account and are subject to Google’s own security and retention practices.

6. Data Deletion

You can delete all local app data at any time:

Use “Reset App” in Settings to wipe all trips and memories stored on your device.
Uninstalling the app removes all associated local data from your device.

If you used Google Drive backup, files stored in your Google Drive must be deleted separately through Google Drive or Google’s account tools. You can also revoke the app’s access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Because we store no data on our own servers, there is nothing for us to delete on our end.

7. Children’s Privacy

Map Memories is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through our app, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected with an updated “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
